Fitting the door billboards
Brief instruction: How to style your door
1. Take around 15 – 30 minutes of your time
2. Unpack the photo film
3. Adjust and/or trim the photo film to size if needed
4. Remove doorknob, attach photo film to door with included tape, reattach doorknob
5. That’s it!
Please note that the door billboards are only suitable for smooth interior doors.
It doesn’t matter what material (metal, wood, plastic, glass, etc.) your interior door is made from. The standard size of the door billboard is: Height 2.10 m x width 0.90 m
Your door billboard comes complete with a separate, double-sided adhesive tape and can be attached immediately!
To fit your door billboard, you will need:
Around 15-30 minutes (plus 15 minutes waiting time)
Possibly someone to help you
A measuring tape or ruler
A felt pen
A cutter / carpet knife
Cleaning agent, e.g. spirits
Dry cleaning cloth
Screwdriver
This is how easy it is:
Step 1: Preparation
Ideally, remove the door handle using a screwdriver.
You can of course also mark the location of your door handle on the door billboard and then cut this section out of the film. This won’t produce as nice a result as when you remove the handle, however.
Please note: If you do remove the handle, place something between the door and the frame so that you do not shut the door accidentally. After all, if there’s no handle on the door, you can’t open it again and you might inadvertently lock yourself in!
Step 2: Measure and cut to size if necessary
Spread the door billboard out in front of you. The upper edge with the pre-fitted double-sided adhesive tape is your guide line. This edge, for perspective reasons, must remain as it is. Please do not cut anything off it.
If the supplied format (210 cm x 90 cm) fits precisely over your door anyway, you won’t need to worry about cutting the film to size.
Should your door be of a different format to the film supplied, however, proceed as follows:
After you have measured your interior door carefully with a measuring tape or ruler (important! only measure the moving, swinging part of the door, NOT the frame!), spread the door billboard out in front of you on a clean floor. The picture side should face downwards, while the unprinted side is facing upwards at you. At the top you will now see the guide line with the visible double-sided adhesive tape, from which you should now use a felt pen to carefully draw the outline of your interior door. (If the format already matches your door precisely, you of course won’t need to cut the film to size).
Note: If your door is for instance only 2 metres tall and 0.85 metres wide, you will have a height excess of 10 cm and width excess of 5 cm.
What should you do?
You only take off the bottom 10 cm (the top is your guide line that must not be altered!) and 2.5 cm on the right and left (2 x 2.5 cm = 5 cm). This maintains the symmetry of the motif.
Now take a cutter or a carpet knife and cut the door billboard precisely to the size of your interior door. Please note: Always place a solid object underneath so that you do not damage the floor, table or similar object when cutting with a blade.
Step 3: Cutting the double-sided adhesive tape to size
Now, the double-sided adhesive tape supplied comes into use. Cut enough from the adhesive tape to match your requirements for the height and width of your door. So, as described in step 2, for instance 2 m x 0.85 m.
We have already fastened the double-sided adhesive tape to the guide edge on the door billboard at the top.
When you have cut the adhesive tape, you will have three strips of double-sided adhesive tape. One for the left-hand side of the door, one for the right-hand side and one for the lower door edge.
Step 4: Attaching the adhesive tape
Clean the side edges of your garage door to the width of the adhesive tape using a cleaning agent, e.g. spirits. Before you do this, always carry out a test in an inconspicuous place to avoid damage to paint or discolouration. Once the cleaning agent has dried, secure the double-sided adhesive tape to the outer edges of your interior door – on the left, the right and along the bottom. As you do so, you must absolutely ensure that the adhesive tape is affixed to your interior door securely and smoothly. Smooth it over evenly as you go along.
Wait for around 10-15 minutes until the adhesive tape is securely adhered to the interior door. Then pull the protective film off the double-sided adhesive tape in order to secure the door billboard in place.
Step 5: Affixing the photo film
Now start attaching the door billboard to the interior door.
It’s best done by two people, but of course you can do it on your own!
While you do this, also remove the protective film from the adhesive film that’s already attached to the door billboard.
Start now at the guide line (top) and press the door billboard onto the door. Hold the bottom section of the door billboard away from the door. Now slowly smooth from top to bottom and use light pressure to press the door billboard onto your interior door (if you have not removed the door handle, now push the door handle through the previously-cut opening).
Step 6: Attaching the door handle
Reattach the door handle – and that’s it! That’s all there is to it.
Your door billboard from style-your-door.com is finished!
Important! Of course, you can clean the door billboard at any time with regular household cleaning agents and wipe it with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaning agents, however, since these can damage the door billboard’s coloured surface.
Attaching the door handle
You are responsible for attaching a door billboard and any consequences arising from this.
We also request your understanding that we are unable to take back any door billboards that have already been cut to size, damaged in any other way or which have already been hung in place. We also accept no liability for any damage to the interior door or other damage that may be caused by the door billboard.
